Election Employment Opportunities

Election Day: Monday, October 22, 2018

Position Descriptions:
The following is a brief description of the duties of Election Officials. Successful applicants will be provided with a detailed instruction manual as well as comprehensive training sessions.

Deputy Returning Officer:
Under the direction of the Managing Deputy Returning Officer (MDRO), The Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) is mainly responsible for issuing ballots to qualified Voters in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act and the procedures set out by the Haldimand County Clerk. The DRO must do everything to ensure that voting is smooth and easy, and that the laws governing the election are strictly followed. 
Honorarium: $200 per Election Day, $40 per Training Session.

Revision Deputy Returning Officer:
The Revision Deputy Returning Officer (RDRO) is appointed to assist Voters at the Polling Location and issue applications for revisions to the Voter's List. 
Honorarium: $200 per Election Day, $40 per Training Session.

Tabulator Operator:
The Tabulator Operator (TO) is responsible for operating the Optical Scan Vote Tabulator, ensuring that all ballots are accurately tabulated and that the results are successfully transmitted to Election Central at the close of the polls. 
Honorarium: $200 per Election Day, $40 per Training Session.

Election Assistant:
The Election Assistant’s main duties are to ensure that Voters are greeted and directed through the voting process, understand the proper way to complete the ballot for the Voting Tabulator, and to assist the Tabulator Operators. 
Honorarium: $175 per Election Day, $40 per Training Session.

Qualifications for all Positions:  

  • Must successfully complete the Election Training Sessions
  • Ability to read, speak and write the English language
  • Ability to locate names / addresses in alphabetical order quickly and accurately
  • Ability to assist with setting up and taking down the Voting Location. This may include, but is not limited to: moving and / or lifting tables and chairs
  • Have a professional demeanour, consistently demonstrate good judgement and ability to communicate with all Voters in a friendly and courteous manner
  • Work well as a team member
  • Ability to set aside personal political preferences and deal with Voters in a non-partisan manner while conducting elections
  • Computer literacy is a must
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must not be related to a Candidate or actively campaigning for a Candidate

Municipal Elections Compliance Audit Committee  

The City of Brantford, the County of Brant, Haldimand County and Norfolk County are currently seeking interested applicants for appointment to a Municipal Elections Compliance Audit Committee for the 2018 Municipal Election. The term of office for this committee is four years beginning on December 1 2018.

Recommended skill sets for members of the committee include:

  • Accounting and/or auditing experience 
  • Academic experience with expertise in political science or local government administration 
  • Legal experience and/or education 
  • Others with knowledge of the campaign finance rules contained in the Act
