Background:

As part of its commitment to community vibrancy and the promotion of healthy lifestyles, Council has committed to a significant investment in the development of a trail network in its capital program. The following trail related projects are currently underway for completion in the next 3 years:

 - Widening of River Road from York to Cayuga (2017) to improve cycling - 10km

- The acquisition of property for the conversion of the CN Bridge over the Grand River in Cayuga to a pedestrian circular route through Cayuga (2018/19) - 2km

- The development of trail-heads in Caledonia at Burke Park and on County Road 66 associated with the Chippewa Trail (2017). In 2018 these will be connected by a trail extension through the Empire/Avalon development – 10km

- The County recently acquired 10 km of former railway corridor between Caledonia and York that will provide a return walking/cycling loop that will augment the existing Rotary Trail (2018), the Chippewa Trail and Avalon development. Design work is currently underway.

- The development of a walking pathway along the river in Dunnville from Centennial Parks to Winfield Park and down to the Bridge (2017) – 2.2km

- Improvements to an existing pathway near the Caledonia dam to improve accessibility (2018).
