Parks and Recreation Service Plan Update: Community Engagement Sessions

Over the next decade Haldimand County is projected to face population growth, increasing diversity and an aging population. As part of its efforts to anticipate and respond to these changes, work has begun to update the County’s Parks and Recreation Service Plan which is used to guide all decision-making related to parks, recreation/culture services, facilities and amenities.

Over the past few months, Haldimand County has been working to update the Parks and Recreation Service Plan. The goals of this project are to:

• Develop a parks classification and standards plan that will guide operational decisions
• Update the 2006 Strategic Master Plan recommendations in terms of development needs and priorities for recreation and parks
• Review all strategies, initiatives and plans related to recreation, parks, trails and forestry
• Recommend enhancements and/or amendments based on present and future community needs
• Set priorities, identify time frames for delivery and develop estimates for capital and operating costs related to the Plan’s implementation from 2018-2025.

As part of the Service Plan Update process, Haldimand County will be hosting community engagement sessions to share the information that has been gathered, provide an overview of the draft Vision and Guiding Principles and seek community input. Attend one of the following sessions to learn more and provide your feedback:

Wednesday, February 7 - 7 p.m.
Caledonia Library (100 Haddington St.)

Tuesday February 13 - 7pm (Rescheduled from January 29th)
Hagersville High School Cafeteria (70 Parkview Rd)

Wednesday, February 28 - 7 p.m.
Dunnville Community Lifespan Centre (275 Ramsey Dr.)

During 2018, it is anticipated that the Service Plan recommendations will be submitted to, reviewed and vetted by Council. Once approved, recommendations will be included as part of the rigorous capital and operating budget process – considering sustainability and replacement costs.
