Municipal Class Environmental Assessment
Argyle Street and Haddington Street Intersection Improvements - Caledonia

The Study

Haldimand County (County) has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) to address traffic and pedestrian safety concerns at the intersection of Argyle
Street and Haddington Street in Caledonia. Argyle Street presently functions as a two-lane arterial roadway serving north-south traffic flows, while Haddington Street is a two-lane collector roadway serving east-west traffic flows. The existing intersection includes a skewed configuration with a sharp curve on the westbound approach, wide angle northbound right-turn, multiple driveways in the immediate vicinity of the intersection and no pedestrian crossing facilities on Argyle Street.

The Class EA Study will identify and evaluate improvement alternatives to address identified issues and safety concerns. These alternatives will include:

· Do Nothing;
· Signalized Intersection Design; and
· Roundabout Design.

In addition to the above, the Study will also identify and address other engineering aspects of the study area including accesses to adjoining properties, utilities and street lighting.

The Process

In accordance with the Municipal Engineers Association’s (MEA) Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, this Study is being planned as a Schedule B. Public and agency consultation is a key element of the Class EA process and input will be sought from
various parties throughout this Study.

A Public Information Centre (PIC) is planned for Tues. June 12, 2018 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at the Haldimand County Caledonia Centre, Remax Room, 100 Haddington Street, Caledonia to offer an opportunity to review the Study alternatives and provide input into the Class EA process. Parties who wish to provide input prior to the PIC are encouraged to contact one of the Project Team members identified below:
