The Project

On behalf of Haldimand County, Long Point Region Conservation Authority (LPRCA), and Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA), the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) has initiated a project to update to current mapping and technical standards, the Lake Erie shoreline flooding, erosion, and dynamic beach hazard mapping within Haldimand County.

Consistent hazard mapping across conservation authority jurisdictions is required to support land use planning and permitting decisions in at-risk communities and flood and erosion-related response/mitigation planning. The project will also update municipal risk assessment information for shoreline flooding, including inventorying at-risk infrastructure and estimating damage potential.

The Process

The project will extend from the spring of 2018 to January 2020. Two (2) Public Education Centres (PECs) will be held during the project to provide information to homeowners on flood hazard mitigation and emergency preparedness, and to provide project information and an opportunity for the public to contribute knowledge of local conditions. The PECs will meet the requirements for public consultation for any resulting amendments to regulated area mapping of Ontario Regulations 150/06, 155/06 and 178/06 made under the Conservation Authorities Act. The first PEC is anticipated in the early fall of 2018. Details regarding the forthcoming Public Education Centres will be advertised as the study progresses (See the Lake Erie Shoreline Hazard Assessment Page). In addition, a multi-stakeholder Community Liaison Group (CLG) will be established by the County to provide input during the project.

Community Engagement
There will be opportunity to provide any comments or input that you may have about this project at Public Education Centres (PECs). PECs will be announced once dates and locations are confirmed.
