Civil Marriage Ceremonies 

 

Haldimand County is pleased to offer civil marriage ceremonies, held at the Haldimand County Administration Building at 45 Munsee Street North, Cayuga and at Haldimand County Museum and Archives, 8 Echo Street, Cayuga, Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The ceremonies are non-denominational and are performed by designated County staff under the authority of the Marriage Act.

Ceremony Options  

A choice of the standard civil marriage ceremony or an optional ceremony, incorporating all mandatory declarations, will be used. Personal vows in addition to the mandatory declarations will be permitted.

Marriage Consultation  

A pre-ceremony consultation to be held with your Marriage Officiant must take place prior to the ceremony and both applicants must be in attendance and provide:

1. A valid Ontario Marriage Licence (The Ontario Marriage Licence can be purchased from the County or another Ontario Municipality with the authority to issue marriage licences) which is valid for a period of three months after the date of issue;

2. Payment for the ceremony will be collected during the consultation.

Witnesses  

Two witnesses are required, both of whom must be over 14 years of age and must be able to understand and appreciate what is taking place and be able to give evidence of such at a later date, if required. If you are unable to provide witnesses the County will provide municipal staff to act in this capacity.
