Arena Programs

 

Hockey    

A wide variety of skating programs exist at Haldimand County’s four arenas, providing residents with many options to keep physically active while promoting healthy lifestyles within our community.

Dates, times and locations for the arena programs listed below can be found on our Activity Calendar.

Programs are cancelled on some dates throughout the season.  Please see the list posted at your local arena or check the on-line Activity Calendar before you go to the arena.

Programs & Fees


Public Skate  FREE 

This is an opportunity for all ages to skate. Patrons who participate in public skating programs must respect the rules posted at Arenas.


Adult & Senior Skate  FREE 

This is an opportunity for lap skating and is open to those 18 years and older. Wearing of CSA-approved helmets is strongly recommended.


Child's Hockey Skate  FREE 

This is an opportunity for children to develop hockey skills. Please note that sticks and pucks WILL BE permitted on the ice surface. This skating session is for children up to grade 3.

» All participants must be in skates;
» All participants must be supervised by a parent/guardian wearing skates on the ice;
» Chairs, sleds, strollers, pylons and skating aids ARE NOT permitted on the ice surface;
» It is recommended that all participants wear full hockey equipment for protection; and,
» Wearing of CSA-approved helmets is mandatory for all participants, including adults.


Open Figure Skate  FREE 

This is an opportunity for figure skaters to practice their skating skills. All skaters will be expected to be aware of the others on the ice and maintain a safe environment for all.


Pre-School Skate  FREE 

This is an opportunity for adults to teach children how to skate. This skating session is for children up to grade 3.

» No hockey sticks or figure skating is allowed;
» All participants must be in skates;
» Skating aids will be permitted for this program ONLY;
» All pre-schoolers must be supervised by a parent/guardian on the ice;
» Chairs, sleds, strollers and pylons ARE NOT permitted on the ice surface; and,
» Wearing of a CSA-approved helmet is strongly recommended.


Shinny 

This is an opportunity to participate in self-organized, non-contact hockey. Full equipment is required. Wearing of CSA-approved helmets is MANDATORY.

  • Adult and Women’s Shinny: Open to those 18 years and older. FEES: $7.75/person for 2 hour program; $6.00/person for 1.5 hour program; $4.00 for 1 hour program
  • Teen Shinny: Open to youth from grade 9 to 17 years of age. FREE 
  • Youth Shinny: Open to youth in grades 4-8. FREE 
  • Note: Physically-challenged persons who wish to participate in on-ice activities by using their wheelchair or ice sledge are welcome to join the programs identified.

Inclusion Opportunities 

Individuals who wish to participate in on-ice activities by using their wheelchair or ice sledge are welcome to join the following programs:  public skate, pre-school skate, adult/senior skate.
